Cold Dawn

EDIT01 - Reworked the lighting and added some texture and minor details, to make up for the fact that the piece felt a little empty to me.

Haven special ops cruisers transporting Siberian Konstruct's SK/X/WS-23 Occula warsuit for gravity-well testing.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The Occula was developed by Siberian Konstruct as a zero-G interceptor warsuit meant to be rapidly deployable across the defensive zones of colonies and space facilities. Since it's inception, Haven was born and based in space, or the "Outer Sphere". It's entire native population consisted of the colonies fixed at various lagrangian points near Earth, with it's Earth-bound populations having been inducted as "honorary citizens".

Due to the separation of their most important facilities and population centers, along with the relative lack of space-faring capabilities possessed by native Earthlings, Haven had little to fear in terms of attacks from Earth. However, as many nations began to rebel against Haven and it's oppressive rule to form COTE, the various corporate powers behind Haven started to take the threat of attack more seriously. This growing concern caused a new arms race, with the most powerful and influential members of the Big Guns scrambling to develop war machines that could dominate space. One such model was the Occula.

The most striking feature to the Occula's design was it's backpack array, a system of boosters affixed to powerful fusion guns meant for long-range combat. In an effort to maximize balance and accuracy, the Occula carried no weapons in-hand, instead relying on the fusion guns mounted on it's hands and backpack. The hand-mounted guns could be "inwardly fired", creating a short-range barrage of energy that acted much like a blade or cutting weapon. The flight capabilities of the Occula were far and above most units of it's time, but became more mediocre as the race to develop for zero-G combat continued.

In another display of the emergence of GOTS technology, the Occula was fitted with 3 Disperser Shields- one on either arm, and one in the chest. These devices, when sufficiently powered, could create point-defense shields capable of blocking or deflecting moderate-level energy weapons. Later, a more advanced understanding of the technology allowed these shields to slow or stop most solid-ammunition fire as well.

During the later stages of the Homeworld War, COTE would encounter pairs of these expensive and powerful suits defending everything from colonies to spaceyards or asteroid bases, as they made their desperate push to end the oppressive actions of the Big Guns.

Thanks friend! I'm actually kinda grateful you liked the values, it's the first time I've ever tried using hard shadows as the primary shading, so I was a little worried it didn't look that great...

These are very nice designs. The ships and the sexy mecha.

Not sure if this is the right term too but I like the pallet of the colors.

I love how much you have going on in this picture, the little guys in space suits give a great sense of scale. Very peaceful image, calm before the storm? Great work!

It's something like that... this is more along the lines of testing a prototype, before there was a real danger of attack from Earth. The cruisers aren't combat vessels, but research and experimental ones, so it's more like a calm long before the storm ;)
