EDIT02 (28DEC11) This is now an updated version. Fixed a few things that were bugging me. The background is less prominent, to lend focus to the characters. I also added more detail to both Face and the Otus, fixed the barrel on the sniper rifle, added some more lightning, and worked out a new logo. One more update will be in the works eventually, and will include an example of a consistent framework I'll use for future pieces, as a method of branding.
This particular project was a decent lesson in pushing the envelope. It started simply as a colored version of Face, our plucky heroine pictured to the left. For a while, I was simply going to upload her alone. Then, I got to thinking it would be much more impactful to include a background, and actually attempt to make a full piece out of this.
Long story short, I figured out Google Sketchup in about 30 minutes and whipped up a tasty background, used some old photography(MY old photography) as the basis for the turbulent skies, and then added one of the warsuits I'd drawn up earlier, but never took the time to color. The result is probably my proudest piece yet.
Comments and critique are welcome. No big story for this one, as I'm currently re-writing much of Outer Era.
-SEASON OF STORMS-
Volcanic ash clouds the sky, causing powerful electrical storms which COTE sees as a two-sided sword: the storms are a nuisance for airships and electronics, but serve as an effective shield against orbital drops by Haven.
Dangerous weather conditions and dust storms plague the lands, but the ragtag military assembled by the Children of the Earth stands guard over Skycrest, the city where man first migrated into space aboard massive shuttles launched from stratospheric ramps.
Having been contracted by COTE to test their defensive line, CHARON dispatches Face to prowl the city's outer limits, and gauge their ability to repel an attack.
Her gear and appearance certainly set her apart from the average "rebel on the ground", but they find very little time to envy or observe her before she wanders into the approaching dust storm, and all goes dark.
